RocketWinner is an application developed by Compudigital Industries, Rocklin, California. The RocketWinner concept was developed in 2010 in response to the needs of event promoters needing to know who is in the audience within a specific event.
At event like a baseball game, thousands of people attend and many of them carry mobile devices like the iPhone, Blackberry, Droid, Palm Pre or other Mobile device. We consider these devices to be Virtual Terminals where we can obtain contact information during an event. Many of these devices also have an integrated GPS system, where we can precisely locate the person. Using these capabilities and the FREE RocketWinner APP, we can then provide a giveaway in exchange for their information.
RocketWinner is a viral marketing program based on mobile device technology. Designed for events where there are large numbers of people, RocketWinner uses the attendees mobile phones or the WEB to acquire names, address information and ages of the attendees That will later be provided to the Promoters to market their products. To prompt people to provide this information, Promotional items are given away through Promotions within the event. The overall goal of this package is to obtain as many email addresses, names, addresses and ages as possible within an event timeframe. These events can include anything from a Trade Show to a sporting event, including concerts, ball games, tournaments, meetings, rallies, or any other event where people attend, small or large.
Three Distinct Applications – Within RocketWinner is a FREE application that runs on the either the Droid, iPhone, or the Blackberry platform. We have servers installed in our data center that collect and collate the contact information from the phones. During an event and after the event is completed, the Promoter can have full access to these records or, the data will be rented for mass emails etc. is
The Event - Before an event occurs, the event information is entered into our server by a system Administrator. This information includes details about the Promoter, the event itself, and about Promotions that will be part of the event. After this information is declared and once the Promoter is assign login credentials, the Promoter himself can log into our server and either create or edit Promotional information. The Promoter can update current Promotions or create new ones. Because Promotions occur within an event, the Promoter cannot create additional events. That function is left up to a system Administrator only. The event starts at a certain date and time and then ends at another date and time. Within an event are Promotions. Each Promotion starts at a certain time and end at a certain time, but they do not overlap.
The Promotion - Once this event information is stored on the server, Promotion information can be created. A Promotion is a giveaway that will occur sometime during the event. An event can have unlimited Promotions however, you cannot have overlapping Promotions.
Entering the PROMOTION - Attendees of the concert have 2 ways of entering a Promotion – First, they can register online by going to the www.rocketwinner.com WEBsite. On the site, there are two options, either Login or Register for an Event. The Login is used for system Administrators and Promoters only. The Event Registration is for people who want to simply register for a Promotion online. If one or more events have been setup before the person registered, they are given the opportunity to choose which event they are attending. If no events are scheduled at that point, their registration information is still recorded and saved for future events but they are not able to enter any Promotions for that event. Then, when the event does occur, from their mobile device they simply enter their email address. Our serverslook up previously entered information in order to complete their registration for a Promotion.
One important point is that if an attendee has ever registered with our server for any event, weather through a mobile device or through the WEB, they are part of the main database which is queried on each registration. If an attendee has registered with RocketWinner before, but for a different event, we only require their email address. The Database will be used to lookup all of the rest of their information. If their email address is not found, we then ask for the rest of their registration information and store this data, irrespective of what event they are attending. When an attendee registers, we also make an entry into the “EventsAttended” table so we can find out how many different events people have registered for.
This allows us to use one database for all attendees across many events.
Spirit West Coast – Del Mar, California – Memorial Day 2010
This event is a Christian Concert series with about 20,000 attendees. The first day, at one of the Promotions we will be giving away 4 Back Stage Passes for the first night’s concert to the winner and another 4 passes to the person that owns the phone that the winning person used to registered to win.
If we have done our job efficiently, many people will have decided to pre-register through the WEB interface, so they won’t have to hassle with entering their address and age information when they get to the event. Through an email campaign ahead of the event, attendees are urged to pre-register for the event online and to download the mobile device application on their phone. They can also register at the event using their iPhone, Blackberry, or Droid Mobile Device. If they are using a mobile device, the ID number of the phone is recorded along with their registration information. If they are registering using the WEB interface, we of course do not store any information about their mobile device, just storing their address and email information.
In order to keep bandwidth requirements to a minimum and through an email campaign, everyone is encouraged to download the RocketWinner APP before they get to the event.
On the first day when the concerts starts, the announcer on the stage lets everyone know that you can download the FREE RocketWinner APP from your APP store and that this APP will be used to give away prizes throughout the weekend. The announcer also lets everyone know that the current Promotion is 4 Back Stage Passes for tonite’s concert. After the APP is downloaded, when the user starts the APP, the current Promotion image is downloaded from our server and displayed on the iPhone indicating which Promotion is active. If there is no active Promotion, the server delivers the main image for the Event, letting everyone know that there is no Promotion Active but still allows the attendee to pre-register.
During the announcement, the first prize is announced, 4 back stage passes to tonight’s concert. A winner will be picked at random by our server as soon as the Promotion ends. This information is then displayed on the WEBsite under Live Statistics, available to an Administrator or Promoter responsible for that event. The compelling difference between other APPS and RocketWinner is that we encourage people to use their phone to register other people. It is understood that many people don’t have mobile devices capable of accessing this system. The purpose behind this concept is to get people with iPhone, Blackberries, Droids, and other platforms to register not only themselves but others as well.
At the end of a Promotion, when someone is selected at random to be the winner of that Promotion, the person who owns the mobile device also becomes a winner. The first time someone registers using their iPhone, we attach the ID number of their phone to their record. As others register with the same phone, the owner’s ID information is attached to the person registering. When the winner is determined, the phone’s owner information is also presented and the same prize is given to that person as well.
In the case where a winner has been chosen and he has registered with his own phone or via the WEB, only one person wins the Promotion. A Promotion may last from an ½ hour to all day, so that people have time to register everyone they can.
Social Networking updates – During a Promotion or servers are constantly in communication with twitter MySpace and Facebook, Keeping all participants updated on the current status of the Promotion including who’s ahead, and the number of minutes until the Promotion expires. These real-time updates will allow the participants to know where they stand within a specific Promotion cause even more excitement to as the Promotion continues.
At a concert like Spirit West Coast, one of the problems we always have is the dead time between artists. As Promoters set up staging, instruments, and sound gear, people have to sit around for sometimes up to two in three hours. The Geo-Vendor Event is designed to move these people around the concert site and to most of the vendor locations while the setup is going on. In a typical concert venue like Spirit West Coast we have about 150 vendors around the property. We will designate about 10% of these vendors as geo-vendors. Each geo-vendor is issued a four digit secret code prior to the Promotion, a code that will be entered into a mobile device when they locate a geo-vendor. When the event starts we don’t make it known who the Geo-vendors are, we just informed crowd that there are 15 geo-vendors within the confines of the concert property. The winner of this event will be the first person to get the secret codes from all 15 Geo-vendors.
As the GeoVendor event is going on, our server is constantly updating all the participants using social networking to designate who’s in first place second place third-place etc., using a person’s first name and first letter of the last name. These social networking updates also include how much time is left in the Promotion. This causes participants to visit as many vendors as they possibly can and as fast as possible. To find Geo-Vendors, a participant has to physically go to a vendor location and ask if the vendor is a geo-vendor. One thing that can happen since we are involved in social networking as people have the option of setting that secret code over the social networking sites to their friends. This may be a strategy that people want use however when you send these secret codes over twitter or MySpace or Facebook your also degradation your chances of winning. Will warn people ahead of time that sending these members over social networking really reduces your possibilities of winning but feel free to do so if you’re so moved.
When the first person reaches 15 vendors, our server is keeping track of this data on a real-time basis and then realizes the winner has completed the task. The server then instantly sends out a social networking message letting everybody know that the Promotion has been won and who the winner is. Being a geo-vendor may come at a slight cost to the vendor. Will be requiring the vendor to provide us with merchandise that we can use to give away during the Promotions. There may be also some additional cost involved based on what the Promoter wishes to do. This is a great way to raise additional revenues for the Promoter but to also get hundreds and sometimes thousands of people to all the vendors as they look for this secret code that the geo-vendor’s possess.
The geo-vendor Promotions are just another type of Promotion within our event. A Promoter may select to do more than one geo-vendor Promotion within a concert or a football game etc. If that happens we simply reissue the secret codes to other vendors before the next event. Each time a geo-vendor event is created, a new set of random Secret Codes is initiated. Within the three-day event like Spirit West Coast we could easily have 4 to 6 Geo vendor Promotions that would include most of the vendors during the three-day event.
It is always great to try to have extra events for kids especially at these concerts, especially the three-day concerts. As a part of this need we have created the geo-location Promotion for RocketWinner. First the Promoter of the event declares the GeoLocation Promotion. The most important part of the GeoLocation of it is the fact that the Promoter hides something of value and location is very difficult to find usually out of the middle of a field or a campground or some other locations you wouldn’t expect it to be. It may be hidden under a rock up in a tree behind something, just as long as it’s well hidden.
When the event starts the participants start their rocket winner application on their mobile device. They will be greeted with a screen indicating that they are going to be taking part in a GeoLocation event and asking if they want to be a part of it. If the answer is yes they need to register is simply with their e-mail address in most cases but they’ve never registered before we will of course require their address and their age. When they first start the event they are directed toward the first waypoint a random point somewhere on the property that has been designated as a waypoint. When they reach that waypoint they are then told with the next waypoint is located. Each waypoint is located by using Google Maps which directs them from wherever they are on the property to that waypoint. When they reach the next waypoint they are then directed to the following waypoint after that. Eventually they will arrive at the location where this item has been hidden under a rock, in a tree, or some other place it’s difficult to find. In a large GeoLocation event we may set up over 10 locations for people to go to before we reveal the last location where the item is hidden.
At the end of each Geo-Location event the Promoter will station somebody with a fluorescent orange jacket that will be standing in the area. When you find the item you report back to the person in the jacket and he will twitter or MySpace or Facebook everybody is involved and notify that the item has been discovered and the winner has been chosen.
This is just a great event to keep people busy and excited during down times of the concert or some other type of gathering of people.
LIVE Social Networking interface – The RocketWinner server uses Social networking like Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook to communicate the current status of a promotion to the attendees that are participating in an event. If available, PUSH notifications are used in order to keep participants fully informed of the status of a Promotion. As event milestones are reached, like when an event is about to end or when a Winner is announced, the server uses these Social Network mediums to keep the notifications current.
Social Network Forwarding – As an attendee enters into a Promotion, they are prompted to also register others. This can be done from their own mobile device or, the phone owner can choose to use one of the Social Networks like Twitter, Facebook, or MySpace to send a request out to all of their friends. As the friend receives the message, they can click on the link supplied by the RocketWinner server and also enter into the same Promotion. If that person wins, the person that forwarded the message via social networking also wins.
LIVE Rapid Fire Statistics – Using an Apple iPad, or WEB Browser from a PC or Mac, a Promoter can log into the RocketWinner server to see LIVE data streaming from the server. This is great information to put on a Jumbotron screen to “Crank up” the audience.
Live Feedback – An any large event, there is a need to get the opinion of the crowd in a real time format. The RocketWinner platform allows the Promoter to ask the audience a question and have them respond instantly through the RocketWinner APP. The resultant answer information is then displayed on the Promoter’s iPad or through a WEB Browser interface or both in Real Time.
Information we obtain – At this time, we are setting up the RocketWinner APP to obtain email address, First Name, Last Name, Address, City, State, and ZIP and the Attendees age. The system is being formatted to work in the United States and Canada based on the formatting of the addresses and Postal Codes.
Launch Dates – We are preparing the programming at this time to Test Launch the RocketWinner project on 3 mobile platforms including the iPod, Blackberry, and Droid mobile devices platforms. Based n the current progress of the programming, this initial test launch is scheduled for April 15, 2010 and testing will proceed through May 15th, 2010. We will be performing large event testing at sprit West Coast on Memorial Day, the last week in May, 2010. Starting about June 1, we are scheduled to be ready for full deployment.
Initial RocketWinner Features – Initially, the RocketWinner APPs will support a Standard Promotion, giving a product away at an event through viral registrations. Additional features including Geo_vendor and Geo-Location promotions will be added to future revisions but all within a short timeframe.
